Things I’m Learning Through Church Planting

Here are some random things I’ve been reflecting upon over the last few days about our experience so far in church planting.
Not everyone who acts as though they’re your friend are actually friends. I’ve learned this the hard way.
There is a lot of confusion about church planting among those who are involved in existing churches. This isn’t a bad thing, just shows me that I need to work hard at helping people see what it’s all about. But I have seen this with the average person in the pew. But to my astonishment I have seen it just as often from those who are on staff in churches, people who are supposed to “get it.”
There is a lot of confusion about the role of a church planter. People wonder what in the world I do (again, not a bad thing) and how I get paid to do it since I don’t have a “real job” (as I often hear).
God’s people are extremely and extravagantly generous. ‘Nuf said.
The SBC, for all her faults, is an extremely great help to churches. I could mention a lot of things but I was thinking about this with regards to LifeWay and LifeWay Stores. Unlike many these stores are really geared up to help churches. You get great pricing and discounts. And this extends beyond the SBC world.
I need to do a better job at delegating to others. I am often trying to do too much.
