Theological Development Experiment for LifeConnection Kicks Off
By jason | January 8, 2008
This past Saturday morning a group of guys gathered at the HyVee Cafe for cheap biscuits and gravy and rich theology (I think that was the cheese line someone gave it). But this gathering, to take place about every three weeks is our initial attempt at growing as a theological community.
One of my core commitments is that the church should be a theological community. And by this what I envision is that we recognize that all practice is theological and theology must lead to practice. Theology that doesn’t end in changed life is dry scholasticism. Practice that is devoid of theological depth is mere activism. Both of these options are deficient in my estimation.
So we’re beginning a leadership development experiment that will help us prototype a process to 1) develop elders and elder candidates in the future and 2) develop theologically oriented practice that will guide LifeConnection.
We will begin with Mark Driscoll’s Radical Reformission. But after one session of discussing Driscoll’s book we are moving to spend several months on Gene Getz’ Elders and Leaders.
I’m excited to explore Getz’ books with these guys. I think it will lead to a lot of great discussion, maybe even some good natured debate, that at the end of the day will do nothing but grow our unity over essential matters for LifeConnection.
