The Scripture Challenge (Day 13)
By jason | April 16, 2008
Scripture
Psalm 119.97-104
I have more understanding than all my teachers for your testimonies are my meditation. (99)
How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! (103)
Observation
The juxtaposition of the psalmists understanding and the understanding of his teachers is to highlight how great the word of God is. The general principle must be true for this to have impact. Generally speaking the teacher, the aged understands (has more wisdom) than the younger. But God’s word is so great that it can make even the student more wise than the teacher.
And all of this leads to a recognition of the sweetness of God’s word. If I truly understood how the scripture makes me wise I would come to experience it’s sweetness to my mouth.
Application
It is the scripture that makes me wise, not my own intellect or life experience. Both of the latter are important but more significantly so when coupled with a life saturated in God’s word. And that’s how I need to live, saturated in God’s word. I need to experience the sweetness of God’s word in my own life.
Prayer
Lord help my life be saturated in your word. Help me continually look to your word for wisdom and insight. Cause me to live by it because I have experienced its sweetness on my lips. Give me wisdom from your word for my life and leadership.
