      The Risk of Remaining

      By jason | July 1, 2008

I have been thinking over the last few weeks about something Matthew Leiboult said as I interviewed him during our “Make Us … Risk-Takers” teaching.

The Leiboults were the first family to accept our invitation to come with us to KC. They had to move from Stl and so there was some obvious risk in leaving behind a house, a steady job, and a church to head to KC with this great hope: “I don’t know if we’ll be around in 3 years but why don’t you come with us and join in this great dream of a church that will change the way people think about God” (my confidence has been bolstered greatly in the last 2 years but that’s where we were at during that time).

The ‘Boult (as we affectionately refer to him) said something that’s really stuck with me. Basically:

There came a point when the risk of staying [in STL] was greater than the risk of moving [to KC].

I hope God will help me see that the risk of remaining as I am is greater than the risk of what lies ahead.

In what areas do you need to see the risk of remaining is greater than the risk of moving ahead?

That is such a true thought. We always fear what lies ahead. We fear trusting in God and the process of transforming into something greater for the kingdom. Good question to ask yourself!
