Sunday Recap @ LifeConnection
By jason | June 23, 2008
Well, yesterday was…a nightmare (?). Would that be an accurate description? If nightmare isn’t the right word, certainly yesterday was an example of technology taking away from the message of the gospel, without a doubt. It could certainly be enough to turn anyone into an ardent regulative principle guy destroying all our computers, projectors, and anything else one might feel like destroying.
Okay, so maybe it wasn’t that bad, but it wasn’t very good.
We were in week two of our One Prayer series. We were utilizing Mark Batterson’s teaching, “Make Us … Dreamers.”
Musically things went really well. Personally I’ve really liked the sound quality the last couple of weeks. It’s been loud and it’s been rocking. I hope has been for us to get to the place where we need to pass out ear plugs to people at our Guest Services table. We’re not quite there yet, but getting close. So that’s good.
The band, as usual, brought it. I am continually amazed at how well they come together and how good things sound. They are a great group of musicians (we are clearly blessed).
Unfortunately I didn’t hear the second set because we were trouble shooting how to make the video work after it took a hop and skip to a halt. Man, it was the nightmare realized. I had been praying for this situation all week, unfortunately I don’t know that I planned well enough for the eventuality.
Our tech guru, Matthew Leiboult, inventively and quickly assessed the situation and we had a DVD player hooked up and were able to display the teaching after the band worked through their second set. (Again, the band did a fabulous job on the fly.)
The DVD player did help. There were some pauses and glitches, and every time I cringed waiting for it to come to a halt once more. But we made it through it.
Our assessment, as of now, is cheap crappy DVDs. That’s what I get for being cheap I suppose. So this week we have a couple of things were going to do:
- Someone is hooking us up with good Sony DVDs.
- We are going to install a rack mount system with a DVD player and a simple switcher. We’ve been wanting/needing this so it seems this is the week we do it.
Oh, and I suppose a third is a prayer vigil throughout the week. So feel free to pray for us and with us this week!
Check out Carson’s soon to be post here.
