Striving for Excellence
By jason | May 2, 2008
One of the things that we have valued since day one has been doing everything we do with excellence. In some ways excellence is a relative based upon context and resources.
When I look at some churches and what they’re able to do technologically speaking, for instance, there is no way we can even come close to that sort of production. Does that mean a church, like us, without a multimillion dollar budget is operating on something less than excellence? I hope not because that would not only be unfair but also in my estimation an extremely prejudiced and elitist notion.
But we can all strive for excellence where we’re at can’t we?
Here’s the thing though, we ultimately aren’t striving for excellence because we want what we do to connect with people. Oh, we want that, don’t misunderstand me. The motivational force behind our pursuit for excellence is God himself.
God deserves nothing but our best, every time. The circumstances shouldn’t matter because whatever they are God should get our best.
So this our motivational drive. We serve before an audience of one. No matter who else is there (or how many are there) God is always present. And so we’ll do all we can give him our best every time.
Next time: Choosing Excellence.
