Resources For You to Check Out
By jason | June 24, 2008
Recently I have been listening to some interviews from 9Marks while I drive (one earphone in since my stereo was jacked) and while I mow. They have some really helpful stuff and you might want to check it out.
The New Perspective on Paul with Simon Gathercole and Peter Williams. (audio)
You may have heard about the New Perspective on Paul and wonder what is it’s essence. There are many strands within this movement but there are some common elements that Simon Gathercole addresses. In this audio you will be able to come away with at least a little bit better understanding of NPP coming from the likes of J Dunn and more influentially (because of his popularity) NT Wright. Maybe it’s because he’s an academic, maybe it’s because he’s a Brit, but I found Simon Gathercole’s interaction to be both helpful and fair. This is hard to find sometimes.
Evangelism and the Gospel with Will Metzger (audio)
You may have seen Will Metzger’s book on evangelism at B&N sometime, Tell the Truth. Metzger is on staff with IVCF in Delaware, I believe, and has been on staff with them for like 30+ years. That is astonishing and praiseworthy in it’s own right! His work with students has afforded him some great experience sharing the gospel in an extremely progressive culture.
What I appreciated about his perspective is that he is talking about sharing the gospel and actually does so (as is also seen in Dever’s example). Novel idea, huh?
A Sweeping Conversation with Carl Trueman (audio)
I think the title of this interview says it all. It’s this sort of free for all that can’t easily be summarized. But let me tell you, this was a fun interview. Trueman has a great personality and wit and this is coupled with a sharp mind. You may not agree with everything you hear in this interview but I am confident you will find great value in it.
Life and Preaching with Kent Hughes (audio)
I may have already linked to this interview but thought it valuable to highlight it again. I first discovered Kent Hughes several years ago when he gave the preaching lectures at Midwestern Seminary. Also around that same time I was required to read Liberating Ministry from the Success Syndrome, an extremely valuable book.
In this interview you hear the experience of a man who was in pastoral ministry for some 40 years and preaching ministry, week in and week out, for more than 30 (or something like that). Again, here is an interview on preaching not just theoretical, but from someone who is a practitioner. Another great interview that if you are a teacher, a communicator, a preacher (whatever you call yourself), you will value from.
PS - I’m not getting any royalties for commending their audio. :) They’re free resources.
