Journey through the Scriptures - Exodus 5:21; 6:9
By jason | January 17, 2008
Scripture
And they [the Israelites] said to them [Moses & Aaron], “The Lord look on you and judge. Because you have made us stink in the sight of Pharaoh and his servants, and have put a sword in their hand to kill us.
Moses spoke to the people of Israel, but they did not listen to Moses, because of their broken spirit and harsh slavery.
Observation
What really stands out to me this morning is how the people of God refused to listen to and follow Moses’ leadership. In many ways it is because of their dreadful circumstances and at some level they see Moses partially responsible.
But what would it look like to lead people who are obstinate and refuse to follow? I mean looking ahead we know this is a pattern that continued until Moses’ death. What would that have been like? How discouraging would that be?
Application
I’m so glad I haven’t had to experience this like Moses did. I’m glad that God has moved in the lives of people and for the most part we’ve seen people move with the vision over the years. What a great experience it is to see people burdened for the lost and committed to the vision of changing the way people think about God. I don’t ever want to forget or underestimate how fortunate I am.
Prayer
Lord, thank you for your kindness. Thank you that you have given us a great team who are owning the vision of LifeConnection, I know this isn’t the experience of all leaders. Lord help us continue to have impact in the lives of people in Independence.
Father, right now I think of two other church plants in our community (The Bridge and Grace Fellowship). I pray for The Bridge as they celebrate their grand opening this weekend. Lord help them to experience unity around their vision. Give them great impact in the lives of people far from you. And Lord I pray for Grace as they are just 6 or 7 weeks into it. Father, help them grow in their impact in our community.

It would appear as though Mose’s leadership failed but in all actuality the israelites failed to trust God because of their deep distress. You’ve got to have a lot of respect for Moses though, because he endured through the israelite’s complaints and pursued pharoah knowing that his heart was going to be hardened so God could display His glory. Moses shows us a strong example of perseverance in my opinion.

Good thought Olivia. I agree, it takes a special kind of leader to endure through that.
