Journey through the Scriptures - Exodus 40:34-35
By jason | January 28, 2008
Scripture
Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. And Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.
Observation
The last four chapters have been dedicated to the details of the Tabernacle. In many ways we can get lost in those details forgetting that this is the residence of the Lord, the place where heaven and earth met.
And when the Tabernacle was completed Gods presence consumed the place to the point that Moses was not even able to enter it. The greatness of God literally dwelled in the Tabernacle.
It shouldn’t be hard to recall what John said of Jesus, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth (John 1.14). The glory of the Father that once consumed the Tabernacle resided fully in the person of Jesus who dwelt among humanity (Col 1.19-20).
Application
What an amazing picture. The God-man living among us. What if his contemporaries, especially the religious establishment, could have seen this in Jesus? There was such reverence and awe for Moses’ leadership during the Tabernacle days. They held the Temple in great esteem. What if they could have recognized that the fullness of God resided in this one, Jesus?
What if people today could see Jesus for who he really is? What if people could see in Jesus that the fullness of God resides in him?
Not only that but we no longer have to rely on a Tabernacle or Temple to contain the glory of God. We no longer have to remain distant and removed from the place where God resides, rather we can have direct access to him through Jesus. We can draw near the throne of grace with confidence because of Jesus (Heb 4.16).
Prayer
Lord thank you that we can have access to you through Jesus because he came and dwelt among us. Help LifeConnection point people to you through Jesus. Help believers take next steps and help those who are far from you find access through Jesus.
