Hillsong Healer, Faked Cancer, The Fallout - People Ticked

      By jason | August 22, 2008

Here is another article describing the fallout.  It sounds as if there might be a news broadcast shortly.  I’m sure that will get posted on the web.

Seems there was quite a bit of money donated to “help” him. If he doesn’t try to somehow restore what he stole, then can he really be repentant? I don’t think so, myself.

Biblical, godly repentance certainly entails more thann “I’m sorry.” The example of Zaccheus comes to mind.

        August 22nd, 2008 at 1:57 pm

But should his repentance - whether or not he pays back the money, says he’s sorry, whatever - should that affect our forgiveness?

I’m not saying he shouldn’t repent. But his repentance is between him and God. For me to say, “He’s not repentant” is a judgment on my part. For me to say, “I will not forgive him because he is not repentant” will only hurt me.

        Melinda,

I didn’t say I won’t forgive him. You definitely read that into my response.

      5. Melinda Says:
        August 22nd, 2008 at 2:25 pm

Not trying to read into it. Just pointing out… whether he repents or not, we really can’t tell. I mean, there should definitely be some outward signs (like paying back the money, maybe making a public apology or something like that) but ultimately that’s something we just can’t know. (Even if he pays back the money, we still can’t tell… I mean, that’s a positive sign but doesn’t necessarily mean anything.) That’s all.

      6. Melinda Says:
        August 22nd, 2008 at 2:38 pm

Oh and I’m not saying you said he’s not repentant. Just… an observation.

I think we all need to be careful of how we choose to respond to this. Sin is sin.. God does not have a level system. Michael’s poor choice of lying about having cancer for 2 years is no different than a child lying to his mother about not being in the cookie jar. Forgiveness is given to all by grace and God has instructed us that those who show grace will have grace shown to them. We all need to rally in prayer for our brother who is in the largest battle any of us could ever face… his soul and eternity is at stake.

Michael Guglielmucci is just another manifestation of fraudulent Christianity. He doesn’t need any sympathy, he just needs to be stripped of the “high life” that goes with being a religious fraud.

He may come right if he wants to come right, but who knows, maybe he is browsing pornography while I write this. Maybe he is hanging out with whores, etc.

Why believe his confessions and explanations now? (He has been lying for years.)

Time will prove whether he intends to change for the better.

He has brought disrepute on God’s name by being a persistent liar to people who accepted him in good faith and gave him money, etc.
However the people who followed him are also part of the problem.

People should learn the skills of being discerning, and stop idolising church celebrities (the Bible calls it idolatry).

Michael is just a manifestation of a false “prosperity gospel” that is championed by the likes of Brian “You need more money” and Bobby “Kingdom Women love sex” Houston of Hillsong church. Brian’s own father Frank was kicked out of church for sexual immorality.

Maybe they could blame it on pornography, the Devil, etc., but excuses for sin never worked with God, so church leaders should stop promoting the excuse industry.

Churches like Hillsong are mostly tax free entertainment businesses with the name of Jesus Christ glued on top.

They earn millions, give away thousands, then keep the rest to grow their empires with expensive church buildings and the managers often living a hedonistic lifestyle, supposedly a blessing from God, but actually a contradiction of the Bible.

The 3 G’s (gold, girls, and glory) usually overtake church leaders who allow themselves to be seduced by worldly ways and ignored warnings like:
1 John 2:15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world–the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does–comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.

“The lust of his eyes” part covers the pornography aspect well.

I think you’re being a little presumptuous about a lot of things. I wonder if you really know how much they really give away. Do you have access to their financial records. To make an all encompassing statement about church leaders you don’t know and probably have never took the time to find out about other than, “Brian’s father was kicked out of the church for sexual immorality” is very ignorant of you. Besides why are you imputing the sins of the father onto the son, isn’t the Grace of God all about being redeemed from the sins of out fathers and being washed clean and made right by our Father in Heaven. It sounds to me like you have some offenses in your life towards leaders in the church (megachurch or not) and you need to deal with that before you make statements about the character of those God has set in a position of leadership over His church. Yes I agree there have been many who have walked in sin and it is a shame, but to say that every leader in a large church is corrupt is wrong. You should learn a lesson from David when he spared Saul. (1 Sam 26:9 “Do not destroy him, for who can stretch out his hand against the Lord’s anointed, and be guiltless?”)

the thing that comes to mind in this is, he was and is in now the process of being healed. Even though we now know he didnt have cancer he obviously had a mental disorder and other problems. The Word says “everything done in the darkness will be brought to the light”, this has been done and now he is getting the help he needs. Sin is sin from the smallest lie to murder, but Jesus died for our sins all we have to do is come to Him with a repentant heart and His Blood covers all. So in the midst of all this talk we have to remember he is being healed and will be made whole, now he may not being healed of cancer BUT he is being healed of his real problems.

Let those who are without sin cast the first stone

23 but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks F2 foolishness, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 26 For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. 27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; 28 and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, 29 that no flesh should glory in His presence. 30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God–and righteousness and sanctification and redemption– 31 that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.” F3

I still like the song He wrote (Healer).
Anyone knows how that song came to being?
Do I still have to… listen to it?

        September 1st, 2008 at 3:49 am

It’s funny, but the song Healer is my favorite in the album and the only one that sounds authentic to me whenever I listen to the album. What’s more amazing is that when I found out that he was actually addicted I felt like God really did write this song through him. Why? Because it’s a song of repentence and cry to God for healing (exactly what he needs as well as I do from the same problem I’ve been battling for a few years). All I want to do is thank God that this song is written and with all hopes helps me in my journey towards complete healing. Play for me please.

      16. Liz F. Says:
        September 5th, 2008 at 9:22 pm

I agree with Mara. I love this song, and no matter what his “disease” is, the fact is, this song resonates with those in need of healing. I believe that while he may have stated the song was about his fake battle with cancer, the truth seems to be God was trying to speak to him about his real addiction - and that He wanted to heal it. I hear it as a cry for help and restoration by the man who needs it so much, just as the rest of us. Such were some of us… liars, manipulators, cheaters, theives, sinners. Let he who is without sin cast that first stone. It will surely not be me.

      17. Matt F. Says:
        September 7th, 2008 at 12:09 am

I agree with Liz and Mara. God deals with each person in individual ways. Thats the great thing about the God we serve. I heard the song Healer and chills went up my spine. I had no idea what the guy did or didn’t do I felt the power of God coming over me and it has changed me. I have had the addiction to porn and the lies and everything but it seems when I heard this song….. it inspired me to be healed and let God do the healing. I have stuggled with it my whole life and still to this day have stuggles but when I have those troubles and thoughts I simply remeber, He is my healer, My Saviour. He is the only one who has the strength to defeat the junk that the devil puts before us. I say whatever this guy is struggling with lets not chastise him but lift him up and support him in his time of need. The Lord did when he gave him this song so why would we turn away and say he did wrong when we all have come short of the GLORY OF GOD…..

I think its obvious that he’s desperately needed a healing touch from God by choosing to revealed his hidden act. Its not an easy option remembering the consequent to take is so great, but he still do it anyway.

This passage came to my mind

        James 5 : 16
” Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.”

He still can choose to continuing hide his act, but he choose the opposite in the end. I think thats quite a honor act.

I think the best way to handle this is to not look on him but to look on Jesus. Sometimes people disappoints us, even those who we look up to, including those leaders that we have. But the lesson here is we should not look at men, we shouldn’t give our hearts and hopes to men. I’m pretty sure some songs he composed are true…one example is ALways and Forever. we never know how true his relationship with God is. I’m just not sure about the “healer” song. I think we shouldn’t judge him, or put such of our attention to him but pray for him and other Christians that their faith may not be wavered by this circumstance.

I heard the story today at church and I know how the song has impacted the life of my disabled papa so I say, Let God deal with him, that song has allowed people to reawaken their eyes to OUR HEALING and Faithful GOD. What the enemy means to harm lets allow God to use for GOOD!!! The enemy wants us to be divided, and angry and bitter. God’s still on the throne and still in control so Trust Him to lead you.

I see that our brother has fallen. Let us be reminded that everyone falls short of the glory of God. Lets not throw stones at him but rather prayers so that he can be transformed by our intercession.

its not up to us to judge, its up to God. And so many people i know have been judging this guy, as if they never lie or anything. i mean i know its a big thing he did but its really not up to us - this is a real test of faith.

i still feel that the healer song carries some sort of annointing in it - although it may not have fully been true for him - its true for other people over the world. i was listening to the song last night and i didnt feel as if i had to turn it off or anything - i was really getting into it. i still love the song.

He wrote the song and now he’s living it out. In order for God to heal him, Mike had to get all the bad stuff out…the pornography, the lies, all the stuff he’s been hiding for years. It’s like a diabetic sneaking chocolate and telling folks they’re ok but ending up in the hospital. That’s my testimony. I was killing my physical self. He’s been stabbing his spiritual life for more than half his lifetime. Let’s pray that it takes this time…that God truly becomes the Ultimate Healer for him.

The song is still poignant, powerful, and present.

      26. Leslie Says:
        September 16th, 2008 at 8:22 am

Praise Be to God the Father, Your Grace is enough. more than any of us need. God’s Grace is pouring out all over Mike, Mercy and Love are flowing from Jesus so that he may be healed. I pray for anyone who feels that anger inside of them, the same anger that was like the religious spirit that put Christ upon that rugged cross. This is a spirit that you shall be cleansed of. For love casts out all fear. Anger is a way to express what your fear and ultimately don’t understand. AGAPE love is something that we as humans have a hard time wrapping our heads around. This is a prime example of the Fathers AGAPE love for us, and our brother. Just like the adulterous women,Jesus loved her, this is what healed her. We are not able to cast the first stone, we are not without sin, none is righteous apart from Christ. So let us continue to pour out the love of Christ upon our brother and lift him and his family up in prayer. “The Healer” song speaks an ultimate truth into all of our lives. Our worls is in the Lords hands. Don’t focus on the person, don’t even focus on the sin, focus on Jesus and we will all be HEALED.

Without going into his own personal situation, I would like to address how those who donated money to him might feel about all this. Personally, if I am giving freely and cheerfully, then I am probably already aware that the possibility that my gift could be exploited, but that is not why I give. I give out of love for Jesus first and foremost. I give because I know God will bless me. Will I be blessed any less because the person I gave to lied about his own circumstances. I believe the answer is resoundingly no. I have given to many people who I suspected were lying to me, but I still gave out of love. Lying to me does not put an end to love. We minister to people not because of the end result, but because we love God and want to share His love with others. How they respond to love is entirely up to them.

Jenn, whether or not on a large scale, doesn’t really matter. Really gotta agree with one of the comment up there, saying there’s no level system of sin in God’s eye. So I’m really on the side of most of you brothers and sisters in Christ, I shall include Mike in my prayer list.

I am really encouraged by how you all reacted to this matter actually, I gotta confess that I couldn’t help but condemned him when I first heard about it, although not really sure of what’s going on. But yea, that was not any good of me. Only after I accidentally came into this blog and read all your comments, I’m truly ashamed of what I did (the condemning and judging), and realized that I should not be the one throwing stones at him, not the first nor the last. Embrace the spirit of WWJD (What would Jesus Do?), I believe He would hold him in His arms, go through this hard time with him. Like his song suggests: nothing is impossible for Jesus.

With Christ in the vessel we can smile at the storm. :) Have a blessed day!
