Growing in Leadership: Limiting Factors in Growth & Development

There are limiting factors in any organization, including a church, when it comes to growth and development. These come in all shapes and sizes but the bottom line there are certain things that can curb growth and development of the organization. And this is true in the church as well.

One of the most significant limiting factors in any organization is the key leader. Everyone organization, no matter how much “team” is involved, has a key person who makes things “go,” so to speak. In a church this key person is typically the Lead Pastor. With LifeConnection this is me (for good or ill).

I become a limiting factor in that the organization will never be able to develop beyond my own capacities. I become that glass ceiling that curbs our growth and development.

And so I must constantly ask how I am limiting our growth and development. This process will invariably drive my own personal growth and development - if I don’t grow and develop as a leader you can believe our church won’t grow and develop properly.

      Questions to discuss:

      1. In what ways do leaders need to grow and develop in order to burst through that glass ceiling? In other words, what are some of the key areas a leader needs to grow and develop?

      2. What are some of the key areas in your own life in which you need to grow and develop?
