      Good Thoughts From Guy Kawasaki

      By admin | March 26, 2007

I am finishing up The Art of the Start by Guy Kawasaki. There have been a lot of great thoughts in the book so far, a ton of relevant ideas for church launching. I’m sure I’ve said this before but there is a huge correlation between starting a church and starting a business and so I have learned a ton from business entrepreneurs (well I guess it’s yet to be seen what exactly I’ve learned).

Here are a few good thoughts from Guy (in no particular order):

      1. “The reality is that ‘entrepreneur’ is not a job title. It is the state of mind of people who want to alter the future.” (xii)
      2. “The best reason to start an organization is to make meaning - to creat a product or servie that makes the world a better place. So your first task is to decide how you can make meaning.” (3)
      3. Create mantras not missions statements. (6-8)
      4. “Set your sights high and strive for something grand. If you’re going to change the world, you can’t do it with milquetoast and boring products and services. Shoot for doing things at least tn times better than the status quo.” (10)
      5. “As a philosophical framework, make the effort to ‘recruit’ your employees every day - to make sure they want to come back the next day.” (101)

I could’ve added a ton more but these were some highlights to this point. I should get a review up in the next week or so, stay tuned in for that.

Oh, and here is a video of Guy giving a lecture on The Art of the Start.  I thought I’d include it in this post.  Why?  Because you can now embed video in posts!
