      Campus Ministry In Northwest Missouri

      By jason | November 30, 2007

      Yesterday I traveled to the tundra of Maryville, MO home of Northwest MO State University and the perennial powerhouse Bearcats Football Team.  As I drove up there I reflected on several things (I’ll share those related to NW).

      It was 12 years ago that I started my collegiate career at NW.  Crazy to think about.  I was a Bearcat, of course they weren’t near as good in football then as they are today.  My drive to NW from The WP would take nearly 8 hours.

      I was reminded of the opportunity I had during those years to help start Campus Crusade for Christ on that campus which is still in existence today (crazy) and still student led.

      I went to NW to hang out with my friend Jason Yarnell who leads the BSU.  Some really cool things are happening up there and Jason has so much drive and passion to see students become fully devoted followers of Christ.  I’m glad I got the chance to hang out with him a little yesterday afternoon.

      <Rant/Soap Box to follow>

      I love hanging out with campus ministry peeps because I continue to be absolutely convinced that campus ministry is where it’s at.  At LifeConnection we’re never going to allow for the second class citizen mentality where church world is supreme and campus life secondary.

      The men and women who give of themselves to reach the next generation do so because they love God and love students.  I mean did you realize that over 75% of all campus workers raise support for their salary (in part or in whole)?  These men and women are not second class citizens biding their time until they can hit a “real” job in church ministry (although unfortunately I’ve known many who do that).  They are serving on the frontlines reaching and growing the influencers of the next generation.

      We’re coming to the end of the fiscal year and I know many are looking to unload some last minute money toward charitable causes for tax purposes.  Maybe you should consider helping fund those who are working to reach THE most strategic people group on the planet, college students.  I don’t know that you could put your money to better use.

      Here’s a contact for Bill Victor at the state office where you could find out about giving toward collegiate ministry in Missouri.  Or you can call the state office and ask for Angela Carson (in the student ministries office) - 800.736.6227.  If you do make contact tell them you got their info from me…
