      Blogging Helps & Tips

      By jason | January 22, 2008

I’ve talked to several people over the last week that have had questions regarding blogging and blog reading. I thought I’d list some of the things that I employ for blogging and blog reading that might be helpful.

      1. Google Reader. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. This is helpful because if you use Google reader (or some other reader program) you can simply subscribe to the blogs and sites you frequent. This makes reading blogs easier. Instead of heading over to every individual site I can scan every new entry right from my Google Reader. This is a must have for anyone who reads blogs.

So for myself I am subscribed to over 100 blogs and I can simply scan headings and titles in order to read posts that are of interest to me. I do this with news sites like the NYT as well as friend’s blogs. Get it.

      2. MarsEdit. Though I have been using this tool for less than a month (since I’m still working under the trial period) it has become a must have for me. It’s a great tool that allows me to write my content offline and then send it to publish when it’s convenient for me.

This is really handy with my mobile office set up since I often don’t have free wifi access. So I can write something and then set it aside to publish later. This has also proven helpful as ideas for posts or series come to mind. I use it as a place to store my ideas for future reference by typing a title and maybe a short sentence or two describing the initial thought.

One downside, this is a mac app. So if you have a mac, and blog you’d benefit from this. 30 day free trial and then 30 bones after that, not bad. Check it.

      3. Moleskine “Idea Journal.” Okay so this has a broader purpose than solely blogging, as I use it to jot down ideas that come up for all kinds of things. But it has proven indispensable for blogging. I am able to jot down ideas as they come to me while reading, sitting around the house, and so on. If you don’t have an idea book you need to get one. Get it.

Well, I’m really running out of steam on this one. But there are a few things that I do. I’m no blog master by any stretch. But I do know this:if you read more than one blog a day google reader will revolutionize your life.
