Activate: The Four Fs - Facilitate
By jason | June 10, 2008
The Last step in the Groups process from Activate is to actually facilitate your group (remember Big idea #10: Apprentice…Not Expert).
Facilitate Principle #1: Training Group Leaders
- Group Leaders Training
- Half-day training per semester will allow you to laser focus your training and maximize your leaders time.
- Training is different than selection (training comes after apprenticing and selection).
- Holding your training just a few weeks prior to the upcoming semester will create a sense of urgency for leaders and maximize their learning.
- Every leader, Group Leaders and Apprentices, attends even if they have led in the past.
- Who - every leader.
- Where - some place convenient.
- What - basics for every group.
- How - basics, role clarification, leading your group, training time, vision-casting
Facilitate Principle #2: Structuring the First Group Meeting
- The Group Covenant - every member signs this.
- The Syllabus - important dates and events for group.
- Staying on time - important for those skeptical.
- When someone misses first meeting - follow-up and meet-up.
Facilitate Principle #3: Conducting Week-to-Week Facilitation
- Provide a reminder about the meeting each week via phone, email, etc.
- Follow up with those who unexpectedly miss the meeting.
- Send out the group’s prayer requests after each meeting.
- Week-to-Week Pastoral Care (group leaders know what is going on in people’s lives, they lead the charge.
- Week-to-Week Communication from the Groups Pastor (provide training tip, important church announcements to pass along, etc).
Facilitate Principle #4: Conducting Monthly Facilitation
- Group Huddle (Short gathering to encourage, discuss with, train Group Leaders).
Facilitate Principle #5: Conducting Semester Facilitation
- Evangelism projects (at least once in a semester some kind of Servant Evangelism project).
- Serving together at the worship experience.
- Promoting baptism and membership.
- Planning a fun event.
- Special emphasis on Easter during Spring semester.
- Utilize groups to promote and lead into special events and projects (special day of giving, capitol campaign, etc).
